Korea may well be called the “Belgium of the East.” Being located between the great powers of China, Russia and Japan it has been caught up in their conflicts. In the North the Russians backed a Stalinist regime with weapons forming the North Korean Peoples Army, NKPA, while in the South a chaotic political situation was about to explode. On June 25, 1950 the NKPA attacked south of the 38thparallel to start the “Forgotten” Korean War.
