Plan to See These Military Museums in Michigan in 2021
Make plans to see these amazing military museums in Michigan. This is the short list!
Yankee Air Museum, Ypsilanti, Michigan
Kevin Wash, President and CEO of Yankee Air Museum, talks about a their marquee event “Thunder Over Michigan” and how their dynamic organization celebrates the aviation industry and its history.
Book an Air Adventure on one of their five historic aircraft and take a ride into history. Yankee Air Museum’s historic plane rides feature the B-17 Yankee Lady and B-25 Yankee Warrior bombers, the C-47 Hairless Joe Skytrain, the UH-1 Huey, and the magnificent Ford Tri-Motor. Our aircraft fly from May to October so act now to check off that bucket list item. A great gift for you or a family member.
They also have an excellent home-based educational activity section called Creativity Hangar, the Museum’s online resource to distance learning. They have put together several online activities such as storytime, games, crafts, puzzles, oral histories and more so that you and your children can learn about aviation no matter where you are!
AirZoo, Kalamazoo, Michigan
Troy Thrash is the President and Chief Executive Officer of AirZoo. He tells us that the museum has celebrated 40 years. Their website is colorful and easy to navigate and leads the viewer to see their limitless offerings of education and hands-on experiences.
Michigan World War II Legacy Memorial
The Michigan WWII Legacy Memorial began as Honor Flight Michigan in 2007, providing one day, all-expense paid trips to Washington, D.C. so our WWII veterans could see their national memorial.
After 33 flights taking 1400 veterans, the waiting list was exhausted and the mission was accomplished in 2010. Filled with emotion and the thought that “we can do more,” the idea was conceived that it was time to bring the memorial to Michigan.
The Michigan WWII Legacy Memorial will serve as a place to gather, remember, and inspire. It is a memorial designed with the desire to engage the community and educate future generations on the vision, values, and heroic efforts of the Greatest Generation.
