Martin and Holiday – Troubadours for Veterans
Since meeting Michael J. Martin, by way of Gary Lillie, in 2004, Martin was a frequent guest on Veterans Radio. He was one of those “old fashioned tried and true ol’ troubadours” with ballad-folk songs that came out of the Vietnam War experience.
Michael J. Martin lived the music he wrote and sang. His music had some miles on it. He and his partner, Tim “Doc” Holiday, both Vietnam Veterans, started writing and recording their music back in late 70s and early 80s. They led marches from Texas to Washington to make people and the government aware of what was happening to a whole generation of Vietnam Veterans.

They are both gone now, but their music is still inspiring veterans of all ages. It’s as powerful as it is emotional. It’s letting the veterans and their families know that “They Are Not Alone”.

Did you receive the CD’s I sent you a few years back?
Pretty sure I did Lem. THANKS FOR LISTENING!
Thank You for bringing back a program that will feature the Creators of “THE LAST PATROL”. They are both terribly missed and if it weren’t for their music still being available through contact with Michael J.’s Daughter Andy, who’s phone number is listed on this link.
Looking forward to listen this Sunday to the Great Music that, at least for me, saved my life and I’m sure many others. After learning about them and eventually being able to meet them and even “WALK” with them across the Country was a Tremendous Feeling. I saw many Veterans during those “WALKS” come out of the closet, so to speak, as after listening to their music in Concerts performed in various States their outcome on Life was changed, as it was with me!
On a separate note on your main screen notifiying one and all on the pictures of Michael J. and Doc Holiday there is the emblem of the United States Army, of which Michael J. served with but there is no United States Navy emblem, of which Doc Holiday served with. He spent time serving as a “Corpman”, the United States Marine’s Medic. Just thought I’d mention!
Thank You,
Richard Campos
Unofficial Co-Cordinator of the “COLORADO DIVISION – THE LAST PATROL”
Thank you Richard for your support to our Colorado veterans as the unofficial Co-Coordinator! I did not know that Doc was Marine Corps. The home page image will be updated asap.
As Campos said, Holiday was a NAVY Corpsman, who served with the Marines as their “Medic” Both Tim and Michael had bit parts in the Oliver Stone movie. “Born on the 4th of July” Ron Kovic’s bio-pic. I think of Mike and Tim often and hope n will hear their music. I suggest playing sone “Britt Small and Festival” music in the future, also.
Thanks Mike! That’s an interesting detail that they had a bit part in the “Born on the 4th of July” movie. Thanks for the tip on Britt Small and Festival. Stay tuned!
