Smithsonian Airs “Make it Out Alive: USS Indianapolis”
On Sunday, November 12 at 9:00 PM ET/PT, MAKE IT OUT ALIVE: USS INDIANAPOLIS airs on the Smithsonian Channel, recounting the events of July 30, 1945, when the ship was sailing west toward the Philippines, after completing a secret mission delivering atomic bomb parts to an island in the Pacific.
At 12:14am two torpedoes hit the ship, causing approximately 300 men to go down with it and leaving about 900 floating in shark-infested waters with no lifeboats, life jackets, food or water. By the time the survivors are spotted by accident, four days later, only 317 men are still alive.

Help Heal Veterans Provides Free Therapeutic Crafts
This Veterans Day, and throughout the year, Help Heal Veterans, www.healvets.org, is encouraging U.S. Military Veterans to seek help through non-traditional avenues. Since 1971, Help Heal Veterans has provided free therapeutic craft kits to hospitalized and home bound veterans of all generations. Over that time, they have helped traumatized veterans improve their motor skills, while also developing better feelings of self-esteem and self-worth. In fact, craft therapy has been shown to help promote the use of right- and left-brain functioning and help maintain cognitive functioning.
Joe McClain, Help Heal Veterans CEO and U.S. Navy Veteran, will discuss the importance of reaching out for care for Veterans and their families coping with Traumatic Brain Injuries, PTSD and other challenges.
