The Storm on Our Shores
World War II on US Soil
A discussion with author Mark Obmascik who has written “The Storm on Our Shores” which is more than WWII war story. This battle in Alaska is the only American territory that the Japanese occupied during the war.
Attu is a worthless rock in the Aleutian Islands but in May 1943 America sent 15,000 troops to annihilate the 2,900 Japanese occupying force. The story revolves around American trained Doctor Nobou Tatsuguchi and US Army Dick Laird. Tatsuguchi diary, recovered by Laird, is central to this story of duty, desperation, hurting and healing.
